Dimple’s real name was Amina

Dimple was born on 8 June 1957 to Gujarati businessman Chunnibhai and daughter. After birth, Dimple was named Amina by the 48th Imam Aga Khan-III. Amina was the eldest of four siblings. Father was a well-known businessman, so he used to get up and sit with the people associated with the film industry.

When the discussion of the industry started happening at home, Dimple also decided to make a career in acting. Dimple was mature from an early age, who liked to befriend people older than herself. She completed her studies at St. Joseph’s Convent School. Dimple used to be so beautiful that she started getting offers from films since childhood.

Used to call Rajesh Khanna as a fan in childhood

Journalist Bhavna Somaya while talking to Rajesh Khanna in one of her programs told that Dimple Kapadia was such a big fan of Rajesh Khanna since childhood that she used to secretly call him to talk to him. Rajesh Khanna did not talk to his fans at that time, in such a situation he either did not take calls or many times his manager used to pick up the phone and reprimand Dimple.

Got first film with father’s help, but didn’t get role

Father had contacts in the industry, so on his recommendation, he got daughter Dimple to work in HS Rawail’s film Sangharsh. In this film, Dimple was supposed to play the role of Vyjayanti Mala’s childhood, but she was so mature in look that she was removed from the film. At the same time, Dimple also turned down the 1970 film Guddi.

How did you get Raj Kapoor’s film Bobby at the age of 14?

Raj Kapoor was in debt due to losses in film production. To get out of debt, he was making the film Bobby. The budget was less, so instead of taking the big hero in the film, Raj Kapoor cast son Rishi Kapoor.

Rishi Kapoor told in his autobiography that he and Dimple had become such good friends that even Dimple used to call Raj Kapoor daddy like Rishi. At the time of shooting, Dimple took a ring from Rishi Kapoor, which was given to her by girlfriend Jasmine. When people saw Rishi’s ring in Dimple’s hands, everyone assumed that both were in a relationship and their relationship broke up as soon as Rajesh Khanna arrived.

The dates of the wedding were clashing with the dates of Dimple’s film Bobby, but the shooting had to be stopped for a few days on the condition of Rajesh Khanna.
