Rajiv Kapoor, the younger son of Raj Kapoor and younger brother of Rishi-Randhir Kapoor, has passed away. Neetu Kapoor confirmed this on social media. 58-year-old Rajiv has died due to cardiac arrest. Little do people know that a film had caused a rift in the relationship between Raj Kapoor and his younger son. This film was ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’. This is revealed by Madhu Jain in his book ‘Kapurnama’.

Crack in father-son relationship due to Mandakini

According to Madhu Jain’s book ‘Kapoornama’, Rajiv Kapoor made his Bollywood debut with the 1983 film ‘Ek Jaan Hai Hum’. But his career did not gain momentum. So Raj Kapoor made the film ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’ in 1985 and relaunched his son Rajiv. The film was a super hit but Rajiv did not get the credit for it, instead the film’s heroine Mandakini got all the credit. As the film became popular, Rajiv Kapoor became angry with his father Raj Kapoor. After this film, there was a lot of rift between father and son.

‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’ just remained confined around Raj Kapoor and Mandakini. Rajiv to no avail as the film became a hit. The film made Mandakini an overnight star but Rajiv Kapoor could not progress further. For this, Rajiv Kapoor put all the blame on father Raj Kapoor.

Again father son did not work together

After ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’, Raj Kapoor never made a film about Rajiv again. Rajiv was very angry with Papa Raj for this. Rajiv acted in films like ‘Lover Boy’, ‘Hum To Chale Pardes’, ‘Angare’, ‘Thank You’, but he could not make his mark in Bollywood. It is said that he was so angry with his father that he did not go to the funeral after his death.
