Randeep Hooda was cast in director Rajkumar Santoshi’s film Saragarhi. This film was based on Battle of Saragarhi. Randeep was offered the role of Havildar Ishar Singh in the film.
Recently Randeep Hooda has made some revelations regarding this project. He has said that he was completely heartbroken by the news of the film not being made. It seemed as if he had been cheated. He had high expectations from the film. Due to this he also went into depression. The situation had become so bad that the parents would not leave them alone. He used to lock himself in his room due to fear of getting his hair cut.
Actually, when the makers were preparing for this film, Akshay Kumar’s film Kesari was released, which was based on this subject. The film was also a hit at the box office. Due to which this film of director Santoshi was shelved even before it was made and could never be released.
Didn’t sign any other film because of this film
In an interview given to Mashable India, Randeep told that he had given 3 years to this project. During this time he only lived the character of Ishar Singh. Even whatever films were offered to him during this time period, he rejected them all. For the character of Ishar Singh, he had grown his hair long and also beard. As a result, it was not easy for him to sign another film.
Not making the film is no less than a betrayal
When Randeep came to know that this film would not be made because of Kesari, he was completely heartbroken. This news shook him so deeply that he went into depression. He further said- There comes a time in life when nothing happens but there is definitely darkness. At this point I was just frustrated and disappointed. This was no less than a deception.
used to lock themselves in their rooms out of fear
Randeep further said- This thing impressed me a lot. The situation had become so bad that my parents were afraid to leave me alone. I used to lock myself in my room out of fear that someone might cut my hair. However, later I thought that my condition should never get so bad in future. For this I also worked on myself.
Took myself out of depression through martial arts
Randeep had told in an interview given to Mumbai Mirror on this project that due to this reason he has not seen Kesari till date. Nor did anything force him to see this. To get himself out of this sorrow, Randeep took the help of martial arts. He closely observed Sikh culture and traditions along with physical training. It was only because of the principles of Sikhism that he was able to become a better person after this accident.
