Ranji Trophy: Defending champion Mumbai lost: Baroda lost by 84 runs; Goa, Haryana, Railways, Tamil Nadu, Sikkim also won

Defending champion Mumbai had to face defeat in the very first match of the current season (2024-25) of Ranji Trophy. Baroda defeated Mumbai by 84 runs. Baroda, captained by Krunal Pandya, had given Mumbai a target of 262 runs to win. The Mumbai team, playing under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane, was all out after scoring 177 runs. Mumbai won the 2023-2024 Ranji Trophy.

Earlier, batting first, Baroda scored 290 runs in the first innings, in response Mumbai team could score only 214 runs. Whereas Baroda scored 185 runs in the second innings. In this way, Mumbai had to score 262 runs to win in the second innings. The current season of Ranji Trophy 2024-25 has started from October 11. 16 matches are to be played in the first round.

Siddhesh Lad Fifty did not work Mumbai got the target of 262 runs to win. Shreyas Iyer was out after scoring 30 runs and Rahane and Prithvi Shot were out after scoring 12-12 runs. Siddhesh Lad (59) definitely took Mumbai to 177 runs for the team which lost 8 wickets for 137 runs. But his innings could not save the team from defeat. There were four Test cricketers in the Mumbai team. Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Prithvi Shaw and Shardul Thakur also played in this match for Mumbai. Baroda had only one cricketer (Krunal Pandya) with international experience. He played an important inning of 55 runs in the second innings.

Siddhesh Lad scored 59 runs in the second innings for Mumbai.

Goa, Haryana, Railways, Tamil Nadu and Sikkim also started with victory. Goa, Haryana, Railways, Tamil Nadu and Sikkim have started with wins in Ranji Trophy 2024-25. Goa won the first match by a huge margin. Goa defeated Manipur by 9 wickets. Whereas Haryana defeated Bihar by an innings and 43 runs. Railways defeated Chandigarh by 181 runs. Tamil Nadu also defeated Saurashtra by an innings and 65 runs. Nagaland defeated Arunachal Pradesh by an innings and 290 runs. Sikkim opened its account by defeating Mizoran by 137 runs.
