Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund has been handed a new shirt number. The Danish striker is set to wear the number 9 shirt in the upcoming 2024–25 season for the Red Devils. Hojlund wore the No. 11 jersey for the Manchester-based club when he arrived at Old Trafford from Atalanta last summer.
The club unveiled their new No. 9 striker via a social media post with the caption, “Ready to lead the line.”
In the picture, Hojlund was seen posing in the new season’s kit with the word “nine” written in bold letters. This change can be seen as a hint as to which number will be given to new forward signing Joshua Zirkzee. Marcus Rashford will likely continue wearing the number 10 shirt.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag can field a four-man attack this season. With Hojlund playing as a sole striker, Alejandro Garnacho and Rashford can operate through the flanks. Joshua Zirkzee, who represented the Netherlands at the 2024 EURO, can be used as a second striker—a cover for Hojlund.
After announcing their new No. 9, Manchester United dropped an Instagram post featuring legendary forwards who donned the iconic club shirt. Before Rasmus Hojlund, the jersey was worn by Anthony Martial, who parted ways with the Red Devils following the expiration of his contract.
The 28-year-old French forward has spent nine seasons in Manchester. Before Martial, many legendary strikers, including Bobby Charlton, Andy Cole, Dimitar Berbatov, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, wore United’s No. 9 shirt. Hojlund has now been bestowed with the responsibility of carrying on the legacy.
Manchester United have already completed a few star signings in this summer transfer window. Zirkzee has joined the club from Bologna, agreeing to a five-year deal worth £35 million, a fee that is a bit higher than his release clause.
Manchester United have also secured the signature of French wonderkid Leny Yoro from Lille. The 18-year-old may link up with Matthijs de Ligt, who is heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford. Yoro has already played his first game for the Premier League side, featuring in a pre-season friendly against Rangers, which his team won 2-0.
