Ravi Shastri is the former coach of Team India.

Former Team India coach Ravi Shastri has demanded to reduce the number of teams to 6-7 to maintain the quality of Test cricket. Shastri was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of World Cricket Connects held at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Friday.

He said that changes are needed to maintain the quality of Test cricket. Ratings fall if there is no quality. He said that you have 12 Test match teams. Reduce it to six or seven and make a promotion and relegation system. You can make two levels, but let the top six continue to play to maintain interest in Test cricket.

Test cricket is suffering due to domestic T20 league
Shastri said that with the increase in the number of domestic T20 leagues, players are being forced to play in such leagues more than Tests.

Shastri had earlier said that there should be no bilateral T20 cricket in the ICC calendar and the ICC should only hold World Cups in the shortest format of the game.

Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) president Mark Nicholas said that Test cricket is a league in itself but the sport needs money to sustain itself in the long run. He said that every player today wants to play T20 cricket. This is where there are more fans and money.
