Bombay High Court has granted relief to Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt from defamation suit. The court says that prima facie no such fact has been found which shows that the accused is a member of Gangubai’s family. Therefore, the application for quashing of proceedings has been accepted. The proceedings against Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and others have also been stayed by the magistrate. In this way, the makers were given interim relief from the criminal defamation suit.

Case was registered a year ago
A year ago, Hussain Zaidi had filed a defamation suit against Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt by her adopted son Babuji Raoji Shah for a film on the life of Mumbai’s mafia queen Gangubai Kathiawadi, who was the owner of a famous brothel there. Shah had alleged that ever since the posters and promos of the film came out, people of his locality were harassing not only him, but also his family and relatives by calling him ‘prostitute’s family members’.

Court had sought answers from the accused
The first hearing of the case was held in Bombay City Civil Court. The court had given time to Hussain Zaidi, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt to respond by January 7, 2021. Shah’s lawyer said that a criminal case can also be registered against the writer, director and actress for defamation, creating a false image of a woman and circulating indecent material against her.

Release date changed due to RRR
The release date of Gangubai Kathiawadi has been extended once again. Alia Bhatt starrer this film was earlier scheduled to release on 6 January 2022, however now it will be released in February. The reason for the film to be pushed forward could be SS Rajamouli’s film RRR which is slated to release on January 7. Gangubai Kathiawadi will now release on 18 February 2022.

A film is being made on Hussain Zaidi’s book
The shooting of the film took place in Filmcity, for which about Rs.6.5 crore was spent on the set designing. Based on Hussain Zaidi’s book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’, the film will show the story of Don Gangubai. Gangubai was a big name of Mumbai mafia in the 60s. She was sold by her husband for just five hundred rupees. Since then she had indulged in prostitution. During this, he also did a lot of work for the helpless girls.

Ajay Devgan will have a cameo in the film
Ajay Devgan’s cameo will also be seen in the film. People associated with the writing team told that Bhansali has not signed Ranbir Kapoor opposite Alia at the moment. Ajay Devgan is also not opposite Alia. He is in the role of his mentor.
