Many top players who were not retained by their respective IPL franchises can be bought back in the mega auctions, which are expected to take place in the last week of November 2024.
The IPL franchises were allowed to retain as many as six players from their IPL 2024 squads ahead of the mega auctions but only two of them opted to keep hold of all six players. Five franchises retained five players each allowing themsevles to have the option of buying one player back via RTM option.
One team will enter the player auction with two RTMs, whereas the remaining two will have three and four RTMs each.
Hereโs a look at players each team can target via RTM
Mumbai Indians (One RTM, uncapped): MI enter the auctions with one RTM card that they can use for the likes of either Akash Madhwal, Nehal Wadhera, Naman Dhir or Anshul Kamboj.
Chennai Super Kings (One RTM, capped/uncapped): Five-time IPL champions CSK can sign one out of Rachin Ravindra, Devon Conway, Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, or Shardul Thakur via RTM. Conway and Chahar have a long association with CSK, whereas Rachin can be a great choice for the future.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (One RTM, uncapped): SRH can use an RTM card for Abdul Samad, who has been with them since 2020. The 23-year-old Jammu & Kashmir-based all-rounder has been in red-hot form for his state team in the Ranji Trophy these days, and he has also proved his worth in the IPL by playing a host of impactful innings.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (3 RTM options, 3 capped/1 uncapped+2 capped): RCB will have three RTMs in the IPL 2025 mega auctions which they can use to sign Will Jacks, Mohammed Siraj, Faf du Plessis, Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell or Reece Topley. In the last few seasons of the IPL, all these players have done well for the Bengaluru-based franchise, and it wonโt be a surprise if some of them will be seen in action for RCB again.
Gujarat Titans (One RTM, capped): GT will also have one RTM card which they can use to buy back Mohammed Shami, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohit Sharma or David Miller. Shami is GTโs second-leading run scorer in the IPL, whereas Miller has hammered 950 runs in 41 matches for the franchise.
Rajasthan Royals: RR have retained six players which is why he donโt have any RTM cards available.
Kolkata Knight Riders: Like RR, KKR will also be without any RTM option.
Lucknow Super Giants (One RTM, capped): LSG can use the RTM card to re-sign one out of Krunal Pandya, Devdutt Padikkal, Marcus Stoinis, Quinton de Kock or Naveen-ul-Haq. While Stoinis looks the most obvious choice, one should not get surprised if Pandya or De Kock return via RTM.
Delhi Capitals (2 RTM options, 1 capped + 1 uncapped/2 capped): DC can sign two players via RTM. They can use it for Jake Fraser-McGurk, Rishabh Pant, David Warner or Prithvi Shaw. Pant is DCโs leading run scorer and most capped player in IPL history, whereas Fraser-McGurk hammered 330 runs in nine matches of IPL 2024 with a strike rate of 234.04.
Punjab Kings (4 RTM options, 4 capped): PBKS only retained two players, which is why they will enter IPL 2025 mega auctions with Rs 110.50 crore purse and four RTM cards. PBKS can use RTM for Sam Curran, Arshdeep Singh, Kagiso Rabada, Liam Livingstone, Jonny Bairstow, Nathan Ellis, Harshal Patel or Jitesh Sharma. While Arshdeep looked almost certain to be retained via RTM, the other three players will be interesting to watch out for.
