Deadpool and Wolverine have received approval from the Chinese Film Bureau for a simultaneous premiere in China and the US on July 26.
Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated film featuring Deadpool and Wolverine has finally secured a release date in China. For the first time, this Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, has received approval from the Film Bureau to premiere in the country on the same day as in the US, on July 26.
Disney made the announcement via the Chinese social media app Weibo. Despite the franchise’s mature content, the film will reportedly undergo “minimal cuts” for its China release, primarily addressing “violence, blood, gore, and language.” Sources cited by Variety indicate that these edits will not compromise the film’s narrative integrity, ensuring an authentic experience for Chinese audiences.
Interestingly, Marvel also revealed that for Deadpool 3, stars Jackman and Reynolds, alongside director Shawn Levy, will be in China for promotional activities starting July 2. Notably, recent MCU films such as The Marvels, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever premiered in China, while Thor: Love and Thunder did not.
Reportedly, the original Deadpool movie from 2016 wasn’t released in China due to its graphic content. However, the 2018 movie Deadpool 2 was released several months later. The film was re-edited by the Studios to receive a PG-13 rating and it was titled Once Upon a Deadpool.
Marvel movies have faced challenges due to pandemic restrictions and “declining content quality.” However, the release of Deadpool and Wolverine, featuring the unique chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, may help spark fans’ excitement for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Other than Reynolds and Jackman, the confirmed cast members for the upcoming Deadpool 3 include Leslie Uggams as Blind AI, Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, Morena Baccarin returning as Vanessa Carlysle, Brianna Hildebrand continues as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Matthew Macfadyen as Mobius M. Mobius, Shioli Kutsuna and Karan Soni, will be reprising their roles as Yukio and Dopinder, respectively. Additionally, Tara Strong will voice Miss Minutes, along with TJ Miller, Stefan Kapicic, Lewis Tan and Rob Delaney.
There are rumours that a few members from the original Avengers will make a cameo appearance, alongside X-Men heroes and the introduction of new superheroes or villains in Deadpool and Wolverine.
