Sena Rebels “Instigating Internal Disorder”: 7 Citizens File Petition

The plea was filed through advocates Asim Sarode and Ajinkya Udane

A public interest litigation or PIL was filed in the Bombay High Court on Monday against Eknath Shinde and other rebel Shiv Sena MLAs for causing a “political turmoil” and instigating an internal disorder in the Maharashtra government.

The PIL, filed by a group of seven citizens, sought action against the rebel leaders for the “omission of duties and moral wrongs committed, leading to disrespect towards the public rights and good governance”.

The plea, filed through advocates Asim Sarode and Ajinkya Udane, urged the court to direct the rebel leaders to return to the state and resume their duties.

The petition also sought a direction to the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government to submit a detailed plan of assurance, detailing the process of governance in the absence of several of its ministers.

ย “Instead of working for the community, the respondents (Eknath Shinde and other rebel MLAs) are aiming at securing personal gains by instigating an internal disorder within the governance of the State,” the petition stated.

Eknath Shinde, leading the rebellion against Shiv Sena chief and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, has been camping in a Guwahati hotel in BJP-ruled Gujarat for last six days.

Mr Shinde has claimed that he has the support of more than 50 MLAs, of whom nearly 40 are from Shiv Sena.

He moved the Supreme Court on Sunday against the disqualification notice issued by Deputy Speaker Narahari Zirwal to him and 15 other rebel legislators, calling the action “illegal and unconstitutional”

The Eknath Shinde camp has also challenged the rejection of the no-confidence motion against the Deputy Speaker.

The rebels have sought directions to the Narahari Zirwal to not take any action on the disqualification plea, which was filed by the Shiv Sena last week, till the matter of his removal is decided.
