The eagerly awaited Shardiya Navratri 2023 is just around the corner, set to be observed from October 15 to 23. This nine-day festival holds profound significance in Hinduism, as it is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga. Among the four Navratris celebrated annually, the one in the month of Ashwin is known as Sharadiya Navratri. This festival spans nine days, with each day dedicated to the worship of one of the nine goddesses. The term Navratri derives from the Sanskrit words Nav meaning nine and Ratri meaning night. Devotees have already begun preparations for this grand celebration, including the construction of pandals.
Navratri Muhurat 2023 Date and Time:
Shardiya Navratri commences on October 15, with the nine-day festivities concluding on October 23, 2023, followed by Vijaya Dashami, also known as Dussehra. During Navratri, many people observe fasting and perform rituals to honour the goddess.
Kalash Sthapna: According to Hindu tradition, Panchang Kalash, a sacred pot, is installed on the first day of Navratri. The timing of Kalash installation is crucial, as it remains in the same place for the entire nine days and is worshipped as a goddess. Dr. Kunal Kumar Jha, Head of the Postgraduate Astrology Department at Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University, recommends that Kalash Sthapna be performed on Sunday, October 15, between 11:44 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., as it is considered the most auspicious time.
During the nine days of Navratri, each day is dedicated to a different manifestation of Goddess Durga:
The first day honours Goddess Shailputri, symbolized by the colour orange.
The second day is dedicated to Goddess Brahmacharini.
On the third day, devotees worship Goddess Chandraghanta.
The fourth day celebrates Goddess Kushmanda.
The fifth day is devoted to Goddess Skand Mata, mother of Lord Kartikeya.
Goddess Katyayani is honoured on the sixth day.
The seventh day sees the worship of the formidable Goddess Kaalratri.
The eighth day is dedicated to Goddess Mahagauri.
The ninth and final day of Navratri is reserved for the worship of Goddess Siddhidatri.
