Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore recently appeared on Twinkle Khanna’s chat show Tweak India where she talked about her film career and personal life. During this, Twinkle asked her what problems she faced when she was getting married in another religion.

Sharmila said that when she was marrying Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, her parents even received shooting threats. Sharmila said, in my family, everyone was married to Bengalis. Whereas in Tiger’s (Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi) family, everyone was married in different religions. Both of us were busy in our work, so we never thought that there would be so much conflict regarding background and religion. When Tiger and I got married, my family was very worried because we were receiving a lot of threats.

Both their families were against the marriage.

Mansoor was a Nawab from a Muslim royal family and Sharmila was from a middle-class Bengali family. The Pataudi family did not want their son to marry a film actress. On the other hand, Sharmila’s family was also not ready. After much persuasion, their marriage was possible.
