Shehzada Flopped At The Box Office, While Its South Version Earned Rs 280 Crore – News18

Shehzada starred Karthik Aryan and Kriti Sanon.

Allu Arjun’s Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo thrived, but Karthik Aryan’s Shehzada was quickly labelled as a disaster within two weeks.

Karthik Aryan’s film Shehzada was released in theatres in February this year. It had a substantial budget of Rs 85 crore, but it received a tepid response from the audience. Unfortunately, the film proved to be a box office disaster, raking in just Rs 47 crore in revenue and causing substantial financial losses for the makers. It was Karthik Aryan’s first Bollywood remake of a South film. The original film titled Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (2020), from which Shehzada was adapted, attained blockbuster status and stands as a pivotal moment in Allu Arjun’s career. It also marked a significant milestone for Pooja Hegde. Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo serves as the second major success in Allu Arjun’s career, garnering a global box office revenue of Rs 280 crore. The film was produced on a budget of Rs 100 crore.

Allu Arjun’s Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo thrived, but Karthik Aryan’s Shehzada flopped in Hindi-speaking regions and was quickly labelled a disaster within two weeks. In an interview a few months back, Karthik Aryan revealed that the failure of Shehzada had a profound impact on his career choices. He shared, “It’s a big decision because remakes come up from time to time, you know, there’s a script that’s a remake. But I have made up my mind to not act in remake films from now on. I prefer not to work on something that’s already been done.”

Kartik Aryan said that Shehzada faced a lacklustre box office performance because audiences had already seen the film. This fundamental factor resulted in a significant financial loss of Rs 41 crore for the film’s producers. The film garnered Rs 38 crore in India and an additional Rs 47 crore in global revenues.

Kartik Aryan made his film debut with the box office hit 2011 film Pyaar Ka Punchnama where he played Rajat. The actor was last seen in the film Satya Prem Ki Katha opposite Kiara Advani. Soon, he is going to star in a slew of upcoming films including Aashiqui 3, Hera Pheri 3, and Ryan: First Mission.
