In the 90s, every actor wanted to work with Amitabh Bachchan once. Newcomer actors believed that this would lead to growth in their career. On the other hand, Big B wanted Sridevi to share the screen with him in the film Khuda Gawah.

However, Sridevi was not ready for this. She did not want to play a side character in the film. She wanted to be a part of women-centric films. In such a situation, to convince him for the film, Big B had showered flowers. Late choreographer Saroj Khan had revealed this story in the book 'Sridevi: The Internal Screen Goddess'.

Sridevi had set a condition for doing the film

Firoz Khan said- We were shooting a song. Just then a truck came and Sridevi was parked near it. Then the carrier was bowed and rose flowers were showered on him. It was a very beautiful scene.

Sridevi also liked this thing, but she believed that it was too little for her. Then he put a condition to work in the film. According to the condition, she will be seen in a double role with Big in this film. Directors Manoj Desai and Mukul Anand lost this bet and cast Sridevi with Big B. This film proved to be a big hit in both their careers. In the film, Sridevi played the role of Benazir and a girl named Mehndi.

Before Khuda Gawah, Ramesh Sippy had also signed Sridevi and Amitabh Bachchan in his film Ram Ki Sita Shyam Ki Geeta, in which both had double roles.

The film was shot in Afghanistan

The film Khuda Gawah was shot in many parts of Afghanistan. At that time, there was an atmosphere of war in Afghanistan, there was firing everywhere and use of missiles was also common. The Soviets removed the occupation from Afghanistan and gave the responsibility of the country to Najibullah, who became the President. Najibullah was a big fan of Indian films, so when he was asked for permission to shoot Amitabh-Sridevi's film, he immediately agreed.

When Amitabh Bachchan and Sridevi reached Mazar-e-Sharif in Buzkashi, Afghanistan for shooting, President Najibullah Ahmedzai deployed half of Afghanistan's army just for the security of both of them.

Was a super hit in Afghanistan also

Apart from Amitabh Bachchan and Sridevi, Nagarjuna, Shilpa Shirodkar, Danny and Kiran Kumar played lead roles in this film, released in 1992. The film grossed ₹17.9 crore worldwide. It became the second highest-grossing Indian film of 1992. It was a super hit in Afghanistan also and the film ran in theaters for ten weeks.
