India’s star shuttler Kidambi Srikanth reached the semi-finals of the Swiss Open Men’s Singles. He defeated sixth-seeded Thailand’s Katampo Wangcheron in straight games in the quarter-finals. He will now face World No-2 Viktor Axelsen for a place in the finals of the tournament. In men’s doubles, the pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty also managed to reach the semi-finals.
Srikanth defeated Wangcheron in 44 minutes
Srikanth reached the semi-finals of a tournament after about 15 months. The last time they reached the semi-finals of the Hong-Kong Super 500 tournament was in November 2019. Srikanth defeated Wangcheron 21–19 21–15 in a 44-minute match.
Srikanth will compete with world number-2 Excelon
They will now face first seed and World No-2 Denmark’s Viktor in the semi-finals. This will be the first encounter between the two since the 2019 India Open. Victor has been in excellent form for some time.
Satwik-Chirag defeated the 5th seeded pair
At the same time, the pair of Satvik and Chirag defeated fifth seeded Ong Sin and Tiyo Yi in the men’s doubles 12-21 21-19 21-12. Satwik and Chirag will now face sixth seeded Kim Astarup and Anders Skarup Rasmussen in the semi-finals. This is Satwik and Chirag’s first tournament under the coaching of new coach Matthias Boe.
Sindhu will face Blichfeld in the semi-finals
Earlier, PV Sindhu has also reached the semi-finals in the Women’s Singles category. Olympic silver medalist Sindhu will have to beat fourth seed Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt to reach the final.
