Both, Prabhas’ Salaar and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal will be distributed by Anil Thadani’s AA Films.
Two of the biggest releases of the year – Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki and Prabhas’ Salaar will clash at the box office around Christmas this year. Ever since it is announced that both films will hit theatres on December 22, fans and trade experts are left biting their nails and sitting with their fingers crossed. While some were also speculating that the box office clash might create a battle of screens between the two films, here’s some sign of relief.
If a report by Bollywood Hungama is to be believed, senior officials from Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment reached out to Animal producers to resolve the fight over screens with Salaar. Both, Prabhas’ Salaar and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal will be distributed by Anil Thadani’s AA Films. “There was a worry among the makers of Dunki that AA Films might tell theatres that they would get a chance to play Animal, a very highly awaited film, only if they agreed to screen Salaar over Dunki on December 22. Many distributors in the past have indulged in this practice,” a source cited by the entertainment portal claimed.
“Hence, senior authorities from Shah Rukh Khan’s company, Red Chillies Entertainment, reached out to the producers of Animal. The Red Chillies officials requested Animal’s producers to make sure that such a situation doesn’t arise where exhibitors are arm-twisted,” the insider continued.
“The producers of Animal found merit in the request put forward by Red Chillies officials. They assured them that nothing of that sort would happen from their side,” the source added.
On Friday, it was announced that Prabhas’ Salaar will hit theatres on December 22. This means that the film will clash at the box office with Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki.
Salaar was initially supposed to release on September 28 and was scheduled to clash at the box office with Vivek Agnihotri’s The Vaccine War. However, the film was later pushed to December this year because of its pending post-production work. Directed by Prashanth Neel, Salaar also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan, and Meenakshi Chaudhary. The film is produced by Hombale Films, the team behind KGF and Kantara.
On the other hand, Dunki marks Shah Rukh’s third release of the year. The film is directed by Rajkumar Hirani and also stars Taapsee Pannu in the lead. Recently, SRK confirmed that Dunki is not getting pushed to next year and clarified that it is on track to release on Christmas.
