A brilliant Dalit student from Muzaffarnagar missed admission in IIT Dhanbad despite clearing the competitive examination. The student did not have Rs 17500 to deposit the fees on time. The student arranged for the money and reached there for online payment. But till then there will be a delay of 3 minutes

Madras IIT had conducted joint engineering exam.

Atul, son of tailor Rajendra Kumar, resident of Titoda village of Khatauli area, told that this time the Joint Engineering Exam was conducted by Madras IIT. He was to take admission in IIT Dhanbad on the basis of his rank 1455. The fee had to be deposited by 5:00 pm on 24th June. But the family could not raise the money.

Money was not arranged for fees on time

The student’s father Rajendra says that a person from the village had asked to give the money. But the money was not given on time, it took around 4:45 pm to arrange the fee. Till the time the data is uploaded on the website. By then time was over.

The student first submitted an application to the SC-ST Commission. But there was no relief. After this the student first reached Jharkhand High Court and then Madras High Court. After Madras, the case reached the Supreme Court. The student said that the Supreme Court had fixed September 30 for the hearing.

Third IITian in laborer’s family

Two sons of Rajendra, resident of Titoda village, are already studying in IIT. One son Mohit Kumar is doing engineering from Hamirpur and the other son Rohit Kharagpur is doing engineering from IIT. The third son Atul had given the test in Kanpur. Whereas the fourth son Amit is studying in Khatauli. While mother Rajesh Devi works as a housewife and father Rajendra Kumar works as a tailor.
