After an action-packed IPL season, cricket enthusiasts will now shift their focus to the international circuit as the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is set to begin on June 2. The showpiece tournament will be hosted in the USA and the West Indies this year. It marks a historic occasion for America, which is organising a major cricket competition for the first time in history. Members of the US Consulate in Mumbai are also eagerly looking forward to the T20 World Cup. With a few days left for the mega event, the American diplomats based in Mumbai were linked up with some Indian cricketers to learn the basics of the sport. Glimpses of the session were dropped on the official X account of the US Consulate.

Some popular names of the Indian cricket fraternity– Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mohammed Siraj, Dhruv Jurel and Shivam Dube– joined hands to teach the American diplomats “the nuts and bolts of cricket.” Gaikwad’s wife Urtarsha Pawar, who has represented the Maharashtra women’s team in domestic cricket, was also part of the group.

The video opens with the American diplomats demonstrating their love for Indian culture. While one of them expressed her admiration for “desi food”, another person highlighted the wide range of festivals celebrated in the country. That’s when a man referred to cricket which is undoubtedly one of the most popular sports in India.

As they had little knowledge about the game, members of the US Consulate wanted to take part in a “Crash Course of Cricket before the T20 World Cup heads to the United States.” The Indian cricketers appeared in the next frame.

One of the American diplomats asked Rituraj Gaikwad to teach her some “signature moves” with the willow and the Indian opener accepted the request. Mohammed Siraj, a tearaway pacer, was spotted teaching a man how to roll his arms while bowling. Utkarsha Pawar spent some time with the female members and showed them some bowing techniques. Gaikwad and Shivam Dube, on the other hand, helped the Americans learn the basics of batting.

Among those Indian cricketers, Mohammed Siraj and Shivam Dube are set to represent India in the upcoming T20 World Cup. They have already flown off to the USA to prepare for the important tournament. Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, will begin their campaign with a match against Ireland on June 5 in New York.
