Team India will get a new coach on the Sri Lanka tour: Series starts on July 27; Two candidates have been selected; Dravid’s tenure ends

Team India will get a new head coach from the limited over series against Sri Lanka. The Indian team will go to Sri Lanka to play 3 ODIs and 3 T20 International matches. The series will start from July 27.

Indian cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid’s tenure ended with the T20 World Cup. BCCI secretary Jay Shah told PTI, the appointment of coach and selectors will be done soon. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) has selected two candidates after conducting interviews and we will do whatever they decide after reaching Mumbai.

Currently, after winning the World Cup, Team India’s next series will be against Zimbabwe, which will start from July 06. VVS Laxman will coach Team India in this series.

Gambhir can become a coach
IPL 2024 champion Kolkata Knight Riders mentor Gautam Gambhir has given an interview for the head coach of Team India. ESPN Cricinfo recently reported that Gambhir met the members of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). The committee includes former cricketers like Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape and Sulakshana Nayak. The BCCI has been looking for a coach for the Indian team for a long time, as the tenure of the current head coach of the team, Rahul Dravid, ended after the T20 World Cup.

The tenure of the new coach will last till 2027
The tenure of the new coach will start from 1 July 2024 and will last till 31 December 2027. During this period, Team India has to play 5 ICC tournaments. These include the Champions Trophy, T20 World Cup and ODI World Cup along with 2 cycles of the World Test Championship.

Dravid became the head coach in 2021
BCCI appointed Rahul Dravid as the head coach of India in November 2021. Then Team India was eliminated from the group stage of the T20 World Cup. The team reached the semi-finals in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Dravid’s tenure ended after the ODI World Cup in 2023, but due to Team India reaching the final, his tenure was extended till the T20 World Cup.
