‘The Queen’s Gambit’ to be adapted as stage musical – Times of India

After the success of ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ mini-series which is based on Walter Tevis’ 1983 novel of the same title, news is that the book will now be adapted as a stage musical.

Set in the 1950s and 60s, ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ follows the story of Beth Harmon, a brilliant chess player and an addict with a broken past of her own, as she tries to carve a niche for herself in the male-dominated world of competitive chess.

According to a report by Variety, the theatrical stage rights of the novel is acquired by Level Forward.

“It is a privilege for Level Forward to lead the charge of bringing The Queen’s Gambit’ to the stage through the beloved and enduring craft of musical theatre… The story is a siren call amidst our contemporary struggles for gender and racial equity, and we’re looking forward to moving the project forward,” Level Forward CEO Adrienne Becker and producer Julia Dunetz said, as per PTI.
