In Shamli, three sugar mills owe more than Rs 640 crore to farmers for sugarcane. On this issue, farmer organizations have warned the district administration to hold a sit-in. Along with this, farmers have also asked sugar mills not to give sugarcane in case of non-receipt of dues soon.
5 months payment arrears
Seeing the attitude of the farmers, the Shamli District Magistrate has made a meeting with the sugar mill owners and farmer leaders to get the cane arrears cleared at the earliest. According to the current data, the payment of sugarcane has been done till January 28. Cane payment for about 5 months is still pending. Due to which the farmers are threatening the sugar mills of not giving sugarcane along with protesting. Just a few days ago, the farmer leaders had unitedly submitted a memorandum to the Additional District Magistrate in the name of the Chief Minister, demanding payment of sugarcane in this month.
