After the death of prisoner Rajesh Kumar Jaiswal, a resident of Choti Gaibi in the district jail of Varanasi, a case has been registered at Lalpur-Pandeypur police station regarding the disturbance of the prisoners. Jailor Virendra Kumar Trivedi has made other charges including obstruction of government work, rebellion, criminal conspiracy against 41 named and other unidentified prisoners in his Tahrir. With the help of the statement of the jail personnel and the footage of the CCTV cameras of the prison, the police of Lalpur-Pandeypur police station has started investigation.

Death took place on the morning of 25 February

Rajesh, a prisoner living in barrack number 3 of the district jail, died on Friday morning. Jail administration said that Rajesh died due to heart attack. Rajesh was lodged in the district jail for about five and a half months on other charges including cheating and forgery. He was arrested by the police of Chetganj police station and sent to jail. At the same time, the prisoners said that Rajesh died due to negligence and neglect of the jail administration. There was unnecessary delay in treating Rajesh and taking him to the hospital. Along with this, the prisoners created a ruckus inside the jail and ransacked the prisoner guards.

On the information of the jail administration, the force of 10 police stations of Varanasi Commissionerate and district administration officials controlled the situation after persuading the prisoners. The relatives of Rajesh, who reached the jail on the information of the police, also created a ruckus alleging his murder. During this, there was chaos in the district jail for about 3 hours.

DM orders magisterial inquiry

District Magistrate / District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said that a magisterial inquiry has been ordered in connection with the death of under-trial prisoner Rajesh Kumar Jaiswal of the district jail. The Investigating Officer, Additional Municipal Magistrate (IV) has been designated. The District Magistrate / District Magistrate said that the Additional Municipal Magistrate (IV) will conduct a detailed investigation of the case and make available its report to them within a month.
