Gujjars in Rajasthan have threatened to stop the screening of Akshay Kumar’s film ‘Prithviraj’. The Gujjar community says that if the word ‘Rajput’ continues to be used for Prithviraj Chauhan, they will not allow the film to be released. The community claims that Prithviraj belonged to the Gurjar community, not a Rajput. However, the leaders of the Rajput community strongly rejected his claim.

Shri Rajput Karni Sena National Spokesperson Vijendra Singh Shaktawat said that Gujjars were initially Gauchars, which later turned into Gujjars and then Gurjars. They originally come from Gujarat and hence got this name. It is a word related to place and not related to caste.

So history has changed!
Gurjar leader Himmat Singh says that- “Prithviraj movie is based on Prithviraj Raso written by Chandbardai and it was shown in the teaser of Prithviraj film. After studying the inscriptions available in history, researchers have believed that Chandbardai made it Prithviraj Chauhan. It was written about 400 years before the reign of AD.

Himmat Singh further said, “Sanskrit language was used during the reign of Gurjar emperor Prithviraj Chauhan, but not Pringle, which is used by Chandbardai.”

Rajputs call themselves Kshatriyas in MP High Court
Himmat said in favor of his point- “These are historical proofs that Rajputs never existed before the 13th century, we have proved it by facts and at present the people of Rajput caste have also accepted it. Therefore They claimed themselves to be Kshatriyas and not Rajputs. In fact, even after the unveiling of the statue of Gurjar emperor Mihir Bhoj in Dadri and Gwalior, Rajputs registered their caste Kshatriya in the Madhya Pradesh High Court during a dispute.

The controversy over the film is because the word Rajput was not used during the reign of Prithviraj Chauhan. He said, “Prithviraj Chauhan’s father Someshwar belongs to the Gurjar caste, and hence the son himself must be a Gurjar.

Rajput is not a caste, it is a title
On the contrary, Shaktawat of Karni Sena said that it is true that Rajput is a title, not a caste. But then it is also a fact that Rajputs are symbols of people who are attached to the land, which means sons of the soil who are ready to sacrifice their lives for the sake of their land.
It is true that there is no mention of Rajput in the 13th century. Lord Ram was Kshatriya but he was never known as Rajput. Rajput is a title which means son of a king, a legacy that continues among the royals where the kings receive the title.

Someshwar was the king of Gurjarland which was part of present-day Gujarat and Rajasthan. Hence he was called Gurjaradhipati or Gurjaradhir. It connected South Rajasthan and Gujarat. He claimed that all the claims of the Gurjar clan are baseless.
