Travel influencer’s take on opting for ‘work-cations’ have internet users pointing out the real corporate scenario.
The concept of work-cations, blending business with pleasure, has taken the world by storm, ushering in a new era of flexibility and countering the ever-mounting issue of worker burnout. Itโs a trend that promises to be the perfect blend of destressing, recharging, and reigniting your motivation โ if you play your cards right. Even influencers have hopped on this bandwagon, singing praises for these dual-purpose getaways where work and leisure dance in harmony. However, a recent incident involving a travel influencer has ignited a contentious discussion online.
It all started when Aakanksha Monga took to โX,โ formerly known as Twitter, and proudly shared her experience, saying, โWhen I was working full-time, I took 8 workcations. From working in the mountains to the working from a beach shack, I have a great hand on workcations!โ Accompanying her statement was a photo of her seated in a setting that showcased a breathtaking view of lush greenery through her window while she diligently worked on her laptop inside her hotel room.

One user remarked, โMy hot-take is only people with a whole lot of IC (Individual contributor) work can take these many workations.โ Another user called attention to the fact that not everyone has the luxury of a job that permits leisurely YouTube scrolling from anywhere, stating, โWhen your work is to scroll through YouTube, you can do it from literally anywhere but not everyone has that kind of work to do.โ
A third user suggested, โIf you have to sit in your room for 8-9 hours for work, & you will be tired after work, you wonโt be able to explore. Workcation doesnโt make much sense for non-content creators, waste of money. Better to take 1-2 leaves with weekend and have a proper vacation.โ
Adding to the critique, a fourth commenter wrote, โFun part is sheโs on workation and scrolling through YouTube and posing like a workaholic. The truth is people like her are the real reason why companies are asking employees to come back to office. Youโre the culprit Aakasnksha.โ
