Ukraine “Damages” S-400 Systems, Hits Ammo Depot, ‘Rostov-on-Don’ Attack Submarine “Sinks” In Crimea – News18

On August 3, Ukraine claimed a significant naval victory, asserting it had sunk the Russian submarine B-237 Rostov-on-Don in Sevastopol, a key Black Sea port. This marks the second attack on this Kilo-class submarine in less than a year, with the vessel previously damaged in September 2023. The Ukrainian General Staff confirmed the attack, highlighting that the Rostov-on-Don’s destruction underscores the peril faced by the Russian fleet in Black Sea waters. Ukraine’s defense ministry celebrated the strike, stating, “Great work, warriors. The Black Sea fish will enjoy their new home.”The submarine, a Kalibr-cruise missile-equipped asset, had undergone repairs and testing after the initial strike. Intelligence reports suggested catastrophic damage during maintenance, contributing to its loss. Ukraine has claimed significant naval successes, including the destruction or disabling of at least 28 Russian vessels. In addition to this maritime success, Ukrainian forces also targeted and damaged four S-400 ‘Triumf’ anti-aircraft systems in Crimea, alongside strikes on oil depots and ammunition storage facilities in Belgorod, Kursk, and Rostov. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has called for long-range attack permissions from Western allies, citing extensive Russian use of guided aerial bombs against Ukraine.
