On Wednesday, many experts including Prof. Ved Prakash held a press conference at KGMU on prevention of lung cancer.
Apart from men, cases of lung cancer are increasing rapidly in women as well. 7 men out of one lakh are suffering from lung cancer. Whereas 2 women are suffering from lung cancer. This information was given by the head of the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine of KGMU.

A day before World Lung Cancer Day, a program was held in the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine of KGMU in Lucknow. Dr. Ved Prakash said that the causes of lung cancer in women are smoking and air pollution. Now women are going out of the house for education and jobs. Due to this, this disease is being seen in women.
These are the symptoms of lung cancer
Dr. Vedprakash said that the symptoms of lung cancer include persistent cough, blood in cough, chest pain, difficulty in breathing, hoarseness, weight loss, loss of appetite, fatigue, frequent infections, swelling in the face or neck, bone pain, persistent headache.
Surgery can be done for early stage lung cancer. Apart from this, therapy is used to target and kill cancer cells when surgery is not an option. Similarly, drugs are used to kill cancer cells, it is used for advanced stage lung cancer.
He said that the department is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including bronchoscopy, thoracoscopy and EBUS ultrasound, which ensure accurate and timely diagnosis of lung cancer. Apart from this, there are also top class facilities like rigid bronchoscopy and cryo-biopsy, air-way stenting. Apart from this, lung cancer is also treated with chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy.
Lung cancer is increasing due to these reasons
Dr. Ved Prakash said that every year about 67 thousand new cases of lung cancer are reported in the country. This is 9.3% of the total deaths due to cancer. In 85% of cases, lung cancer is caused by smoking. 15% are caused by air pollution, genetic and other reasons. These include indoor air pollution, occupational risks and air pollution from cooking fuel. During this, former chairman of KGMU Respiratory Medicine Department Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. RAS Kushwaha, Dr. Vijay Kumar and Dr. Rajiv Gupta were present.
