On Basant Panchami today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the memorial of Maharaja Suheldev in Bahraich. Maharaja Suheldev was the emperor of the princely state of Bahraich-Shravasti in the 11th century. Today was also his 1015th birth anniversary. In his 26-minute address, the Prime Minister praised Suheldev’s heroic 7 times. It has its own meaning. Actually, the Prime Minister tried to help Rajbhar and Pasi castes before the assembly elections in UP. These two castes have considerable influence in the 50 seats of Purvanchal and both empowers Maharaja Suheldev to be his descendant.

Politics experts say that by celebrating this jubilee, the BJP has done a big message to the Rajbhar class. The government and the BJP organization want that no other party has a monopoly on the vote bank of any caste. PM Modi has made this effort to break this caste bond. But will the Bharatiya Janata Party be able to maintain its strength in the vote bank of 22 assembly seats in 14 districts of Purvanchal? This is the big question.

Senior journalist Ratanmani Lal says that Apna Dal was a part of the BJP with Apna Dal (S) before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The Nishad party was inducted by the BJP’s top leadership before the election. When the government was formed in UP in the year 2017, Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party National President Om Prakash Rajbhar was made the cabinet minister. But after a year and a half due to some differences, he split from BJP. But by then BJP had made a dent in Rajbhar vote bank. And to build strength, BJP increased his stature by making Anil Rajbhar a cabinet minister. Sakaldeep Rajbhar was nominated as a Rajya Sabha MP. Gave ticket to young BJP leader Vijay Rajbhar in Mau region. Successive BJP government is working on Rajbhar, Nishad and OBC vote bank and has managed to break the monopoly of any political party.

Strength of 12 percent Rajbhar votes in UP
Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party believes that 4% of the statewide population is in the country and 12% in Uttar Pradesh. In Purvanchal they consider 12 to 22 percent of the number of voters in Rajbhar. The party sees the Rajbhar Janadhar dividing the Ghaghra River across and across it. In Ghaghra, Ghazipur, Chandauli, Ghosi, etc. districts, the number of voters across the state is considered to be between 2.5 and 4 lakh. Ghaghra Rajbhar voters in the districts of this cross are considered to be one and a half to two lakh Salempur and Ghosi parliamentary seats fall both on and across the Ghaghra river and Rajbhar voters are the highest in both these places. According to an estimate, Rajbhar votes in the two dozen Lok Sabha seats of Purvanchal range from 50 thousand to 2.5 lakh.

  • Ghosi, Ballia, Chandauli, Salempur, Ghazipur, Deoria, Azamgarh, Lalganj, Ambedkaranagar, Machilishahar, Jaunpur, Varanasi, Mirzapur, Bhadohi are considered to be Rajbhar dominated. Due to the high number of Rajbhars in Purvanchal, Om Prakash Rajbhar has made the separate Purvanchal state his main issue.
  • The Rajbhar society has been the closest to the BSP till now and the BSP has taken forward many leaders of this society – Sukhdev Rajbhar, Ram Achal Rajbhar, Ramashankar Rajbhar etc. Where Rajbhar caste leaders did not contest elections, people of this society also used to vote for BJP, SP and other parties.

How much does Rajbhar society exist in vote bank?
Rajbhar voters have the ability to win and win in nearly 50 assembly seats in UP, especially in Ballia, Ghazipur, Deoria, Mau, Chandauli, Varanasi, Jaunpur and Azamgarh districts. In view of this, all the major parties are trying to woo this community. Rajbhar voters are in large numbers in five seats in Varanasi district, 10 in Azamgarh, four in Mau, seven in Ballia, seven in Ghazipur, 9 in Jaunpur and seven in Deoria. According to an estimate, there are 80,000 to 40,000 seats in 66 seats of UP and 45,000 to 25,000 voters in around 56 seats. In the 2017 assembly elections, BJP got the benefit of Rajbhar vote bank in 22 seats.
