The Uttarakhand disaster on February 7 resulted in the death of over 30 people with more than 170 still missing as flash floods hit the hills of Chamoli. Rescue efforts are still on as combined teams of NDRF, SDRF, ITBP and other sister agencies comb the area looking for survivors. While investigations are still ongoing on the reason for the disaster on Feb 7, there are some prevailing theories. The need of the hour is proper training and awareness of local, state and central government bodies on the preparedness in case of a disaster- man-made or natural.
