What to do before flood preparation

- Collect food items as per the need like biscuits, lai, roasted gram, jaggery, chuda, salt, sugar, sattu etc.
- To prevent illness, keep chlorine, ORS and essential medicines in the first aid kit.
- Keep dry grains and cattle feed safely at some high place.
- Keep jerrycan, umbrella, tarpaulin, rope, air filled tube, first aid kit, mobile and charger, battery operated radio, torch, emergency light, matches etc. ready in advance.
- To prevent diseases in animals, vaccinate them on time.
- Do not live in a dilapidated building.

- On receiving flood warning, pregnant women, children, elderly, disabled and sick people should be immediately taken to a safe place.
- Before leaving the house, make sure to turn off the main power switch and regulator and cover the toilet seat with a bag filled with sand.
- Do not consume water from a hand pump that is submerged in flood.
- Use boiled or chlorinated water.
- Do not consume food items that have come in contact with flood water.
- Make arrangements for safe delivery of pregnant women with the help of Asha and ANM.
- Stay away from electric wires, poles and transformers.
- Check the depth of the water with a stick; do not attempt to cross it if you do not know the depth.
- Be cautious of poisonous animals like snakes, scorpions etc.
- In case of snake bite, immediately take the victim to the nearest health centre.
