Video: Man Washed Away By Strong Currents of Pune Waterfall Days After 5 Drown Near Lonavala – News18

A day after a family of five drowned in a waterfall close to the backwater of Bhushi Dam in Pune’s Lonavala area, a 38-year-old trekker ‘s body was recovered from Maharashtra’s Raigad after he was swept away downstream from Pune’s Tahmini ghat.

The victim, who have been identified as Swapnil Dhawade was a former army personnel and was trekking with a group of around 30 people.

In a video that surfaced on social media, Dhawade is seen jumping into a small waterfall and attempting to climb out. However, due to the strong currents, he slips and gets swept away.

Soon, a search operation was launched and volunteers from the Shivdurg Trekking Club joined the effort.

Dhawade’s body was recovered in Mangaon and was sent for autopsy, police said.

This incident comes just after a video of a family being swept away in a waterfall in Lonavala surfaced on social media. The bodies of all five people were found on Monday with that of the last missing person, a 4-year-old boy, being fished out in the evening, officials said.

Following such tragic incidents, the Pune district administration on Monday issued guidelines for tourists in view of the monsoon.

Collector Suhas Divase instructed authorities to conduct a survey to identify potential hazards and ensure necessary measures for safety of tourists visiting Maval, Mulshi, Khed, Junnar, Bhhor, Velha and Ambegaon, which are located in the Western Ghats, an official said.
