Team India’s flight receives water salute in Mumbai

As the flight UK-1845 landed in Mumbai airport, the aircraft, which carried the World Champions from the national capital, received a water salute from the ground officials.

The Indian cricket team on Thursday landed in Mumbai and their special flight โ€“ Vistara UK 1845 โ€“ received a water salute at the airport. Rohit Sharma & Co took from New Delhi in the afternoon after meeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence. On their arrival in Mumbai, the Indian team will go for an open bus parade before heading to the Wankhede Stadium for a felicitation ceremony.

As the flight UK-1845 landed in Mumbai airport, the aircraft, which carried the World Champions from the national capital, received a water salute from the ground officials.

The excitement of the fans in Mumbai is unmatched as they hit the streets in large numbers to welcome Rohit Sharma and his boys. The champions will be driven around the city in a specially designed bus, making the occasion a visually spectacular and appropriate celebration of the teamโ€™s victory. The team is scheduled to arrive in Mumbai in the afternoon following their meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in the morning.

The BCCI has arranged a road show for world champions in Mumbai from Nariman Point to Wankhede Stadium, where the team will be felicitated by the Indian board. The event is scheduled to start at 4 pm.

After arriving in the city, Rohit Sharmaโ€™s team and its support staff will make their way to the southern tip of the city which houses the Wankhede Stadium. The iconic stadium which witnessed Indiaโ€™s last ODI World Cup triumph in 2011 had its stands filled to the brim with passionate fans as thousands of others waited outside the gates which were closed around 5:00 pm.

The side was unable to head back home immediately after the title win due to a shutdown forced by Hurricane Beryl in Barbados. They were cocooned in their hotel before the BCCI secretary Jay Shah made arrangements for a special charter flight.

The Air India special charter flight AIC24WC โ€” Air India Champions 24 World Cup โ€” arrived in Delhi at 6 am (IST) on Thursday after a 16-hour non-stop journey.
