Was Disappointed That They Didn't Admit Women: Jaya Bachchan On Wanting To Join Army – News18

Jaya Bachchan’s last film was Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.

Jaya Bachchan was on her granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda’s podcast What The Hell Navya.

Navya Naveli Nanda, the granddaughter of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, hosts a podcast with the name What The Hell Navya. Many celebrities have graced the podcast, and the recent episode featured Jaya Bachchan, Shweta Bachchan, the mother of Navya and Agastya Nanda, her brother.

The trio, on the fourth episode of the second season, shared their opinions on changing stereotypes about men and societyโ€™s bias towards women. As the discussion continued, Jaya Bachchan revealed that she wanted to join the army.

The conversation began with Shweta highlighting the strict gender stereotypes in the past as she said, โ€œThere were certain courses that women took in college versus what men took in college. And it would be odd if a man was sitting and the woman would be driving. Today, thatโ€™s not there and we have progressed.โ€

Adding to Shwetaโ€™s statement, Jaya Bachchan said that she also wanted to join the armed forces but women were not allowed for the same. Disclosing further, she said, โ€œI remember a time when I was very disappointed because I wanted to join the army. At that time, they did not admit women, except as a nurse.โ€

The discussion went on further as Agastya Nanda also joined to share his perspective on strong women. He said, โ€œIโ€™ve grown up around very strong, very opinionated women who said everything they wanted and did whatever they wanted. So, I grew up in a very different environment so my thought process is different.โ€

Jaya Bachchan has been associated with the Indian film industry for many decades. As an adult, her debut film, Guddi, was released in 1971. The actress went on to appear in many commercially successful films. Her last film was Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, directed by Karan Johar. The film, released in 2023, won many accolades and was a commercial hit as well.
