Jos Buttler’s gigantic six goes on the stadium roof

England captain Jos Buttler appeared at his devastating best in the second T20I against the West Indies. Buttler smashed a blistering 83 off 45 balls when his team was chasing 159 runs in Barbados. Courtesy of his thunderous show, England reached the target in just 14.5 overs to claim a seven-wicket victory. It also led them to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match T20I series. Buttler, who returned with a duck in the first T20I, took only 33 deliveries to complete his fifty in the second game. He registered as many as six maximums, one of which covered a distance of 115 metres.

Buttler whacked the giant six off Gudakesh Motie in the ninth over of England’s innings. In his third delivery, the West Indies spinner bowled a length ball. Buttler perfectly judged the line as he stepped out to smash it over the long-on region. His strike was so powerful that the ball disappeared onto the roof of the Kensington Oval.

Before featuring in the ongoing series against the West Indies, Buttler remained out of action for nearly four months due to a calf injury. He last led England in the 2022 T20 World Cup where his team lost the semi-final to eventual champions India.

Following England’s exit from the ICC tournament, questions were raised about Buttler’s future as the white-ball captain. The board, however, has kept their faith in the veteran batter who led the country to secure their second T20 World Cup title in 2022.

Buttler might have failed to showcase his A-game as a batter on his T20I comeback. But his captaincy was commendable in the series opener against the West Indies. Having dominated the first two games, England now aim to seal the series by winning the third T20I, slated to be played in Gros Islet on November 15.
