West Indies beat Australia in warm-up match: Caribbean won by 35 runs in a high scoring match, half-centuries from Pooran and Powell

West Indies played the first warm-up match of World Cup 2024.

Australia defeated West Indies by 35 runs on Friday in the warm-up match of T20 World Cup 2024. In the match played in Port of Spain, Australia won the toss and decided to field first. Batting first, West Indies scored a huge score of 257 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs. In response, Australia could only score 222 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs.

For West Indies, Nicholas Pooran scored 75 runs in 25 balls. Captain Rovman Powes scored 52 runs in 25 balls. The only half-century from Australia came from the bat of Josh Inglis. Inglis scored 55 runs.

Superb batting by West Indies
Shai Hope and Johnson Charles opened the batting for West Indies. Shai Hope could not score many runs and became the victim of Ashton Agar in the third over. He was out after scoring 14 runs. Nicholas Pooran came at number three.

Johnson Charles and Nicholas Pooran took the innings forward. Both of them shared a 90-run partnership in 39 balls. Pooran was dismissed in the 10th over after scoring 75 runs in 25 balls. Charles was also dismissed in the 14th over after scoring 40 runs. Captain Rovman Powell played an innings of 52 runs in 25 balls.

Shimron Hetmyer remained unbeaten on 18 runs and Sherfane Rutherford on 47. The team scored 257 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs.

Spinners got wickets in the first innings
Australia’s spinners got more wickets in the first innings. Adam Zampa got 2 wickets. Whereas, Ashton Agar and Tim David got one wicket each.

Australia got off to a bad start, Agar opened with Warner
Australia’s start in chasing the target was not very good. The Australian team experimented in the warm-up match. Ashton Agar came to bat with David Warner. Warner was out after scoring 15 runs and Agar was out after scoring 28 runs in 13 balls. Captain Mitchell Marsh could also score only 4 runs.

Josh Inglis took charge of the innings and scored 55 runs in 30 balls. On the other hand, Tim David returned to the pavilion after scoring 25 runs and Matthew Wade returned after scoring 25 runs. In the end, Nathan Ellis tried to reach the target but was out after scoring 39 runs in 22 balls. Adam Jampa remained unbeaten after scoring 21 runs in 16 balls and Josh Hazlewood remained unbeaten after scoring 3 runs in 3 balls.

For West Indies, Alzari Joseph and Gukesh Moti got 2-2 wickets each. Whereas, Akeel Hossain, Shamar Joseph and Obed McCoy got 1-1 success.

World Cup will start from 2 June
This year’s T20 World Cup will be played in the USA and West Indies from June 2. The tournament will run till June 29, Australia will play its first match against Oman on June 6. On June 8, the team will face England, while on June 12 and 16, the team will face Namibia and Scotland.
