Saroja Devi’s last film with MGR was Arasa Kattalai.

MG Ramachandran and B Saroja Devi are one of the most memorable onscreen pairs in the South cinema, having given several superhits together. The actress was known as the Kannadathu Paingili popularly. However, as per some reports, she faced a situation in her career in which she ended up getting replaced by the makers of an MGR film.

MGR and Saroja Devi were a very loved and successful film pair. They worked in 26 back-to-back superhits together, which included films like Thaai Sollai Thathadhe, Thaayai Katha Thanayan, Kudumba Thalaivan, Dharmam Thalaikakkum and Needhi Pin Pasam. As per the reports, for the film Vettaikkaran Saroja Devi’s mother asked producer Thevar for an increase in her salary. However, the producer just went to the actress Savitri for the role and signed her. Thevar then never went to Saroja Devi for a call sheet.

As per reports, MG Ramachandran decided on the heroines of his films. RM Veerappan and Chinnappa Thevar were the only producers who went according to their own choices.

Saroja Devi is regarded as the first female superstar in the Kannada film industry. She made her debut in films with the Kannada film Mahakavi Kalidasa. Some of her most successful films were with the actors MG Ramachandran and Sivaji Ganesan. With Sivaji, she gave 22 consecutive hits, which include films like Thangamalai Ragasiyam, Sabaash Meena, Engal Kudumbam Perisu, Bhaaga Pirivinai and many more. In Telugu cinema as well, she gave hits with NT Rama Rao like Seetarama Kalyanam, Jagadeka Veeruni Katha and Daagudu Moothalu. Moreover, in Bollywood, she appeared in films like Paigha, Opera House, Sasural and Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya.

She was last seen opposite MG Ramachandran in the film Arasa Kattalai, released in 1967. The historical film was made under the direction of M G Chakrapani and starred MGR and Saroja Devi as the protagonists. They were supported by names like Jayalalithaa, M N Nambiar and S A Ashokan.
