- Only one of Dharma, none of Red Chillies in top 10 films of 2019
Dharma Productions, Red Chillies and Aanand L. Rai’s films are in the news these days. This is considered to be a big loss for Karthik, but Dharma and Red Chillies themselves have also been looking for a big hit for a long time. If you look at the condition of the last 10 films of these two, 7 of them have been flop. Anand L. None of Rai’s last five films were big hits.
There was a ruckus in Bollywood about Kartik Aaryan when he was dropped from Karan Johar’s Dharma Production’s Dostana 2. After this there were reports of Shahrukh Khan ousting Karthik from a film of Red Chillies and then Aanand L. He was also dropped from Rai’s production. With the removal of Karthik’s name from the films of 3 big banners simultaneously, things like nepotism and film mafiaraj got air again.
2020 has been a bad year for the industry. The films were released only for the first three months and since then till now the industry has not been able to get back on track, but in the list of top 10 hits of 2019, there is no Dharma or Red Chillies in the top 5 list.
Why the ruckus in the name of Kartik?
Karthik, the son of a doctor couple from Madhya Pradesh had come to Mumbai to study engineering. Karthik slowly started making his mark and now he has two crore followers on Insta.
Karthik’s first film ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ was successful, but later he had to struggle. He became a star with the stupendous success of ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2’ and ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’.
validation now old thinking
It is believed that if you want validation in Bollywood, then it is necessary to do a film of a big production house, but in the era of OTT and South’s influence on Bollywood, validation may not have been an issue anymore.
Today there are many distribution mediums including OTT and YouTube. They have their own stars. Shah Rukh, Akshay Kumar and Alia Bhatt have also started their own production companies. Now one does not need validation from any big production house.
same side news
Kartik Aaryan has so far kept silence on the entire controversy, but filmmaker Anubhav Sinha and writer Apoorva Asrani have said that the way the news is going, it shows that a campaign has been launched against Karthik.
no one can destroy a star
Film producer Girish Johar told in a conversation with Dainik Bhaskar that actors currently get OTT, endorsement, advertisement and many other jobs. Today’s stars are investing in some other business as well, so no one can destroy a star. Bollywood is no longer the legacy of a few families or production houses.
The civilization with which Karthik has kept silence on all the controversy also shows that only one side is driving the news. Unless the other side speaks, how can we say that the films were snatched or removed.
Many options from YouTube to OTT
Film producer and writer Raaj Shaandilyaa says that today there is no dearth of work for any talented actor. YouTube is an industry in itself. I have met so many YouTubers, who have millions and many more than one crore followers.
Earlier there were only shows of stand up comedy. Now that is a different industry. Artists are earning lakhs by selling content from their channel or on OTT platform.
Now no one needs big producers
Actor Imran Zahid, who runs a niche acting school in Delhi and the protagonist of the play ‘The Last Salute’ written and produced by Mahesh Bhatt, says that now YouTube and some apps also garner more views than movies. A big film like Kalank falls upside down and more than that any YouTube video becomes viral.
There is no longer a need for a traditional house to gain popularity, earnings or endorsements. The era of chamchagiri has passed.
