Why This Bollywood Beauty Could Not Give A Superhit In Her 15-Year-Long Career – News18

She made her debut as a child actor.

The actress is the granddaughter of a famous Bengali actress who also worked in several Bollywood movies.

While many Bollywood actresses hail from prestigious families, flaunting both wealth and connections, not all are destined for enduring success. Riya Sen, belonging to a renowned Bollywood family, including veteran actress Suchitra Sen as her grandmother and actress Moon Moon Sen as her mother, failed to etch a lasting mark on the industry.

Born as Riya Dev Varma, she altered her surname to Sen upon entering Bollywood. Despite her lineage and connections, Riya Senโ€™s career trajectory diverged from the path of her illustrious family members. Unlike the successful journeys of Bollywood stars like Soha Ali Khan and Aditi Rao Hydari, Riya Sen faced challenges in establishing herself.

Riya Sen, reportedly part of the royal family of Tripura through her fatherโ€™s lineage, made her debut in the film industry at the tender age of 5. In 1991, she appeared in the film Vishkanya, portraying the younger version of Pooja Bediโ€™s character. Her official entry into adult roles occurred at 19 with the Tamil film Taj Mahal in 2000, directed by Bharathiraja, written by Mani Ratnam, and featuring music by AR Rahman. However, the film met with box-office failure.

Transitioning to Bollywood, Riya Senโ€™s debut in the 2001 film Style opposite Sharman Joshi, Sahil Khan, and Shilpi Sharma marked a success under the direction of N Chandra. Despite this initial triumph, Riya Senโ€™s subsequent films, including Jhankaar Beats, Qayamat, and Apna Sapna Money Money, achieved only moderate success.

After a series of film ventures, Riya Sen took a hiatus from the industry. In 2017, she entered a new phase of her life by marrying Shivam Tewari, her then-boyfriend.
