Italy’s Fabio Fognini knocked out Norway’s Casper Ruud in the second round of Wimbledon 2024. Fognini won the match 6-4, 5-7, 6-7 (7), 6-3 after four sets. The match lasted for 3 hours and 17 minutes.

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain also reached the third round. Alcaraz defeated world number 69 Aleksandar Vukic of Australia 7-6 (7/5), 6-2, 6-2.

Naomi Osaka was knocked out in the second round by American Emma Navarro on Wednesday. Playing her first Wimbledon since 2018, Osaka lost 6-4, 6-1 in less than an hour on Centre Court.

Third Grand Slam of the year
There are 4 Grand Slams in tennis. All four are held every year, starting with the Australian Open in January. The French Open is in May and June. Wimbledon is in July and the US Open in August-September. The US Open is the last Grand Slam of the year.

Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam tournament which is not organized by any National Tennis Association. It is organized by the All England Club. The club was founded in 1868. Tennis was earlier called croquet. 6 members together started the All England Tennis and Croquet Club and later they started the Wimbledon tournament in 1877.

Today it is a private club and has 500 members. The Princess of Wales is the owner of this club. Currently Catherine Elizabeth Middleton is its owner.
