Over an hour after the BCCI announced squad for the Zimbabwe T20I series, Varun Chakaravarthy, who was ignored, shared a couple of stories on Instagram.
India spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has posted a couple of stories with cryptic messages after BCCI announced an 18-man squad for the upcoming bilateral T20I series in Zimbabwe next month. Chakaravarthy, who was crucial to Kolkata Knight Riders winning IPL 2024, was a notable omission in the squad.
“I wish I had a paid PR agency!” read the caption of the first story shared by the legspinner who has represented India in six T20Is.
Chakaravarthy picked 21 wickets in 15 matches for KKR in IPL 2024 to finish as their leading wicket-taker and second overall of the season behind Harshal Patel (24).
“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference,” read the caption of the second story from Chakaravarthy.

A young Indian team, led by Gill, will be in Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series which will be their first assignment post the ongoing T20 World Cup. The series starts from July 6 with all matches to be held in Harare.
There’s just one specialist spinner in the squad in Bishnoi.
The 32-year-old Chakaravarthy made his India debut in July 2021 against Sri Lanka and was also picked in the squad for the T20 World Cup later this year. However, after an underwhelming show ay the T20 showpiece, he was dropped from the squad and hasn’t played for India ever since.
The 18-man squad features as many as five players who have been given maiden call-ups and a majority of them were produced eye-catching performances in IPL 2024. They include Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Tushar Deshpande and Dhruv Jurel.
