Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said “Yamraj”, the deity of death, will be waiting for those harassing women in the state.
Yogi’s comments come after a girl from UP’s Ambedkarnagar died when some miscreants tried to molest her by tugging her dupatta causing her to fall from her bicycle on a moving road. The victim was reportedly crushed to death under a motorcycle.
The video of the incident went viral on social media. In the video, the girl, riding on a bicycle on her way back from school, was seen being troubled by two miscreants who tried to pull her dupatta.
She lost her balance, fell off her bicycle and was hit by a motorist who failed to apply breaks on time. The victim reportedly died on the spot.
According to the police, the man on the bike that hit her was also one of the associates of the two men who tried to molest her.
The three accused involved in the incident have been arrested. Police said two of the accused sustained bullet injuries while one suffered a leg fracture while trying to escape from custody on Sunday.
Yogi Adityanath has been known for his strict crackdown on crime since assuming office in 2017.
The UP CM further highlighted the importance of a strong legal system for safeguarding law and order and stressed that no one will be allowed to misuse the law.
