Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken a tough stance after the poisonous liquor scandal in Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh on Friday. Yogi has directed the liquor mafia to take action under the Gangster Act and auction their property to compensate the victim’s families. At the same time, on Saturday, Congress National General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi accused the Yogi government of failure in Prayagraj due to deaths from poisonous liquor.
Yogi issued this instruction during the meeting on Saturday. He has asked the state DGP, Principal Secretary Excise and other senior officials to check the black trade of illegal liquor by CM Yogi.
Excise officers will sell if illegal liquor is sold
The CM has also warned that if illegal liquor is found selling in an area, strict action will be taken against the police station and excise officers there. Along with suspension and dismissal, FIR will also be lodged and sent to jail. CM Yogi said that illegal liquor should not be sold in any district of Uttar Pradesh. This black business should be controlled at all costs.
Six people died in Prayagraj
On Friday, six people died after drinking poisonous liquor in Amilia village of Phulpur in Prayagraj district. The first death occurred on Thursday night of a paan seller while five others succumbed on Friday. At the same time, five others have been admitted to the hospital in critical condition. Earlier, many people have died in Lucknow, Mathura and Firozabad also due to poisonous liquor.
In UP, there have been deaths due to poisonous liquor in many places including Lucknow, Firozabad, Hapur, Mathura, Prayagraj. There were deaths from poisonous liquor in Agra, Baghpat, Meerut.
