The atmosphere in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, became tense on Saturday. A second meeting was called today for the election of the President and the Vice President of the Zilla Parishad here. Only seven councilors attended the meeting, but BJP-backed members shied away from it. After this, MLAs and Deputy Commissioners went face to face when given a long date. The leaders created a ruckus here. Here, slogans were chanted, ‘Let the power brokers, hit the shoes for years’.
Let us know that in Himachal Pradesh, voting has been held to elect Panchayati Raj institutions. In this, the elected Zilla Parishad members have to choose the President and Vice-Chairman of the Council. For the past several days, the process of selection of these two posts of Kullu District Council has been stuck in the balance. Once the first meeting did not complete the Careem, a second meeting was called on Saturday. Today only seven members of Congress were present in the meeting, while no one reached from BJP till one o’clock. Subsequently, Deputy Commissioner Kullu doctor Richa Verma extended the time period to ensure the day of February 11 for election.
Soon after this decision, Congress started protesting. Kullu Sadar MLA Sundar Singh Thakur along with other Congressmen sat on the ground inside the Zilla Parishad office. She accused the Deputy Commissioner that she was acting at the behest of the government and now the election date has been extended under pressure from the minister. During this period, other Congress workers outside the Zilla Parishad office also raised a lot of slogans against the government.
