A newborn baby boy has been reunited with his parents after he was allegedly taken by a 19-year-old teen in a duffel bag from the municipal hospital in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Nivea Rabelo and her husband Matheus Cunha welcomed their first child, a boy on Tuesday. On Wednesday, around 2 a.m., a girl named Cuane Malaquias was seen entering the hospital with an empty duffle bag.
She was spotted leaving the hospital after allegedly placing the newborn in her oversized bag and taking him to her home. The CCTV camera recorded her entry and exit. The police authorities caught the teen at her home and the baby was reunited with his parents at the hospital on Wednesday around 9 a.m.
The 19-year-old girl Cuane has been accused of a crime which involves the separation of a mother from the child. The Amelia Buarque de Hollanda Municipal Maternity Hospital witnessed the robbery which has also sparked the debate over the safety norms of the hospitals in Brazil.
According to hospital officials, the teen entered the facility through a balcony before she went inside the maternity ward on the third floor. She allegedly took a newborn child named, Ravi Cunha while his mother and paternal grandmother were sleeping. The baby’s paternal grandfather, Davi Cunha, told the media that his daughter-in-law breasted the child while his wife changed his diaper before taking a nap.
“Twenty minutes later, when (his wife) woke up to look at Ravi, he was no longer in the basket. Immediately, my wife tried to find out from the other roommates if someone had picked him up to calm him down, but no,” Davi Cunha added, as quoted by Dailymail news report. According to the surveillance footage, Cuane was seen pacing out of the hospital’s front door without being detected.
Around 8 a.m., after receiving an anonymous tip from the neighbour of Cuane Malaquisas, the police rushed to the house of the accused and found the baby. The newborn was rushed to the hospital by the police authorities. The four other newborn babies and their mother were also found sleeping on that floor at the time of the incident.
