Shreyas Iyer’s struggles with short ball continued as he was dismissed for 33 runs in the ODI World Cup 2023 clash between India and New Zealand.
Shreyas Iyer’s trouble with the short ball continued as the Indian batter succumbed to another unlucky dismissal during the India vs New Zealand ICC ODI World Cup 2023 clash. Iyer has had his troubles with the short balls in the past and he perished trying to pull the ball away for a six, but Trent Boult found a way to get rid of the 28-year-old.
India were given a target of 274 to chase and Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill started well but were dismissed in quick succession. Rohit narrowly missed out on a quickfire fifty as he scored 46 in 40 balls, while Gill scored 26 in 31 balls.
Shreyas Iyer then joined hands with Virat Kohli to steady the ship, as the pair stitched together a partnership before Boult struck to get rid of Iyer on 33.

Shreyas had tried playing the pull shot on a couple of occasions but in the 22nd over of India’s inning, Iyer fell for the short ball. He couldn’t middle the ball properly and managed to edge the delivery to deep square leg where Devon Conway was stationed. The opener dived full length in front of him to take the catch.
