The heat is so intense that 65 people have died in four days. The night temperature has also crossed 40 degrees. People are restless, they are afraid to leave their homes. The administration is stopping those who are leaving. They are asking people to stay at home by beating drums, so that the death toll can be stopped from increasing. This atmosphere is telling that this time the heat is not normal. The situation is the worst in Bundelkhand.
Dainik Bhaskar’s team is reporting from these hottest areas of Uttar Pradesh. Our reporters will tell the condition of these areas in the scorching heat and also tell the reasons…
These mountains heated by the sun do not cool down quickly, due to which the heat persists in the area.
First of all, look at these three cases of deaths caused by heat
Case-1. On Thursday in Mahoba, a 25-year-old youth suddenly fell on the ground while giving water to the cattle and died.
Case-2. In Banda, a young man left his house to sell tea. He felt dizzy on the way and fell down along with his bicycle. His family members took him to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
Case-3. In Hamirpur, a woman returned home after working in the fields. She drank water from a pot and after some time she fell unconscious. When she was taken to the hospital, the doctors declared her dead.
Now let us take you to Bundelkhand, where the situation is worse due to the heat
We reached Bundelkhand in extreme heat. We first stopped at Mahoba. A young man died 3 days ago in Pipramaf village of Thana Srinagar here. He was only 25 years old. The young man had gone to the cattle shed to give water to the animals. He suddenly fell unconscious there. The villagers took him to the hospital, but by then he had died.
When we reached this village, there was a strange silence all around. No one was visible far and wide. There were dense and tall trees in the village. Even then the sun was so hot that it was making the head spin. It felt like fire was raining from the sky. We covered our hands and feet, yet we were not getting any relief. We were drinking water in between. We were trying to walk in the shade.
Along with the village, there was silence in the urban areas of Mahoba also due to the heat.
Amidst the silence, an old man from the village was seen opening a small kiosk. His name is Nanhe. There was a small fan in his kiosk. There was shade of a tree above. Inside the kiosk, there were water bottles and ice packs. Packets of namkeen and biscuits were kept.
When we reached there, the first thing they asked us was why did we come out in such heat? When we introduced ourselves to them, they gave us water and asked us to sit. They also turned a small fan towards us.
When we talked to him about the heat, he said- Bhaiya, I am seeing such heat for the first time at the age of 65. It seems that I will die. I neither feel like eating anything nor going anywhere. I just feel like drinking water. While wiping sweat, my towel becomes wet, but the sweat does not stop coming out.
A boy from our village died within no time
Nanhe says- In the previous summers, we used to plaster the house with cow dung and it would become cool. But this time it is not having any effect. If we pour water on the floor, it starts emitting heat like fire. Fans and coolers have become ineffective. The same heat persists even at night. When we sleep at night, we remain restless. As soon as we doze off, our whole body becomes drenched in sweat.
Along with us, the younger people are also in a bad condition. Ananta Vishwakarma (25) of our village was giving water to the animals. He got such a heat stroke that he died as soon as he fell in the cattle shed. We forbid everyone from going out of the house. We also have the responsibility of running the house, that is why we open the shop and sit. The condition of rest of the villagers is very bad. These old people of Mahoba, surrounded by rocky mountains on all sides, are just an example. Everyone had a similar story. When you pass through the roads here between the mountains, it feels like you are passing through a furnace.
In Hamirpur, an elderly man fainted and died as soon as he left the house
After Mahoba, our team reached Hamirpur. Where 32 people have lost their lives in 4 days. However, the administration did not confirm this. In Mianpura locality of Rath Nagar in Hamirpur, a 60-year-old man died as soon as he left his house. He fell unconscious as soon as he left the house. We first reached the locality of that old man. There we met the son of that old man, Ganesh.
Ganesh said- The situation here is very bad. The heat of the mountains has the most effect. The entire area is surrounded by mountains. Forget about outside, there is no peace inside the house. Even with a fan one sweats, the air from the fan feels like flames. If you go out, it feels like you will faint. The hot air burns the entire body. There is so much panic that it seems that one will not be able to breathe.
In Hamirpur, people are stepping out of their homes only for important work in this scorching heat. Even the street vendors are standing under the shade of trees.
Ganesh says- We are taking the help of Sattu to protect ourselves from the heat, but it is not showing any effect. Father also left the house after drinking Sattu that day. But as soon as he left the house, he fell down. When we took him to the hospital, the doctors declared him dead.
The doctor in the hospital was saying that due to the heat, both the heart and the brain are stopping working. The entire internal system is getting damaged due to the heat, intense sunlight and scorching heat. We have never seen such heat before. There are not many vehicles and ACs in our neighborhood, yet it is always hot.
Ashok, a resident of Jhansi, says, everyone’s condition is very bad due to the heat.
When our team reached Jhansi, the situation there was also very bad. Even after wearing shoes, it felt as if the feet were burning. Even the clothes were not able to protect the body. When we passed through the mountains burning in the sun, it felt as if the whole body was burnt. There was a severe burning sensation in the eyes. The face had turned completely red. No one was visible far and wide. When we went away from the mountain area, we saw some people.
People said- clothes remain wet throughout the day due to sweat
When we asked him about the heat, he said- Bhaiya, we wear wet clothes throughout the day because they do not dry due to sweat. At night, there is no sunlight, it is scorching and hot like the day.
The situation is very bad. We keep thinking when will we get relief from this heat? We saw similar conditions in Chitrakoot, Banda, Jalaun and Lalitpur. People are suffering from heat there too.
Why Bundelkhand is the hottest in UP… understand in 3 points
Mountains increase the heat in Bundelkhand. The reason is that they do not cool down quickly.
The first reason is that the winds of Rajasthan are colliding with the stones
Dr. Aditya Kumar Singh, meteorologist of Agricultural Science and Center Bharari, said- The hot winds coming from Rajasthan first hit Bundelkhand. That is why the temperature here remains high and the winds also remain hot.
The sand of Rajasthan cools down at night, so there is a slight drop in temperature there. But Bundelkhand is a rocky area, the stones here do not cool down so quickly. Due to their heat, the warmth remains even at night.
Second reason- thorny trees in Bundelkhand, there is no coolness in the air
There are very few trees in Bundelkhand. There are hardly any trees visible on the roads. The trees that are there are also thorny. Due to this, people here do not get shade to protect them from the sun. Also, due to the lack of trees, the air is also not fresh and cool. The air that comes also gets heated by the heat of the stones.
Third reason- there is no moisture in the mountains, it remains hot for a long time
The mountains of Bundelkhand are rocky and stony. There is no moisture in the mountains here. Because of this, these mountains become hotter in the sun. These mountains retain the heat for a long time.
The temperature in the mountains is always higher than the actual temperature.
The temperature of Bundelkhand does not decrease even at night… read why
Meteorologist Dr. Aditya Kumar Singh says- If the temperature in Bundelkhand is above 45, then the temperature of the rocks here becomes 65-70 degrees Celsius. In such a situation, these mountains spew fire. People who pass by these mountains, their health as well as skin is affected badly. Even though there is no heat of the sun at night, but these mountains heat up more intensely than the sun.
Humidity increases a lot during rain in Bundelkhand
According to Dr. Aditya, when there is light rain, there is a lot of humidity in Bundelkhand. The reason is the scorching mountains. When water falls on these mountains, they react like a frying pan. Due to which there is a lot of humidity in the entire area.
Light rain has no effect on these mountains. They cool down only after heavy rain. This time good rain is also expected. Because if there is more heat during Nautapa then there is more rain too.
Animals suffering from heat are also dying now. Hundreds of bats were found lying dead on the ground.
Birds are also dying due to severe heat in Bundelkhand
Not only humans but animals are also troubled by the heat. In Bundelkhand, about 10 thousand bats and parrots have lost their lives due to the heat. The highest number of these is in Banda. There is an oxygen park in the Atarra police station area of Banda. Where more than 2000 bats have been found dead.
The local people informed the administration about this. On receiving the information, the team that came collected the dead bats and kept them aside. The Animal Husbandry Department sent the bodies of these bats for postmortem.
Due to the death of such a large number of bats, the local people have expressed the fear of the spread of disease. They have demanded the spraying of medicine from the administration. Similarly, more than 5000 bats have died in Lalitpur too.
