In Katghar village of Sarpathan police station area of Jaunpur, a widow and an old man died on the spot after being struck by lightning while transplanting paddy in the field on Tuesday evening. Another woman was partially burnt. Police reached the spot on information and took both the bodies into custody.

According to the information, Katghar resident Rekha (39) wife of late Sanjay and Shobhnath Harijan (58) who were transplanting paddy on Tuesday evening became victims of lightning. Both died on the spot. Shobhavati wife of Sukhai who was working with them also got partially burnt in the accident. As soon as the incident was known, there was chaos. On receiving the information, police reached the spot. Police took the bodies in their custody and sent the burnt woman to the hospital. She was released after treatment.

Here, as soon as the news of death was known, there was chaos in both the families. Deceased Rekha’s husband Sanjay had died four years ago. She was raising two sons and two daughters by doing hard labour. Police station in-charge Arvind Kumar Singh said that the death was due to lightning. Post-mortem is being conducted.
