Gambhir has not yet signed the salary contract: Salary may be equal to Dravid’s; tenure will be till 2027

Former Indian player Gautam Gambhir has become the head coach of Team India. BCCI officially informed about this on Tuesday. Gambhir will now replace Rahul Dravid. Gambhir has not yet signed the coach’s salary contract.
A source in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) told PTI, “It was more important for Gambhir to take charge, salary and other things are being worked out. It is a similar case to Ravi Shastri in 2014 when he was first made the Director of Cricket in place of head coach Duncan Fletcher.
The day Shastri joined, he did not even have a contract and things were finalised later. In Gautam’s case too, some details are being worked out. His salary will be the same as that of Rahul Dravid.
Dravid’s tenure ended after the T20 World Cup. Gambhir’s tenure will last till 2027.
Gambhir does not have coaching experience
Gambhir made Kolkata Knight Riders the champion of IPL-2024 a month and a half ago. He became the mentor of the Kolkata franchise this year. Not only this, in his mentorship, Gambhir took Lucknow Super Giants to the playoffs of 2 consecutive seasons in 2022 and 2023. Gambhir has no coaching experience at the international or domestic level.

Gambhir won 2 World Cups and 2 IPLs as a player
As a player, Gambhir was part of India’s T20 World Cup win in 2007 and ODI World Cup win in 2011. He captained KKR for seven IPL seasons from 2011 to 2017 and also qualified for the playoffs five times. As a captain, he won two titles in 2012 and 2014.
