If a student falls sick, there is no ambulance available. The warden also does not listen. The protest continued till 1 am late night. The students were adamant on their demand to call the vice chancellor to the spot and remove the warden. The university management kept trying to convince them.

Anger erupted over non-availability of ambulance

The students said that the warden does not listen to them. Even if they call when they are sick, she does not help them.

A student living in Jhalkaribai Girls Hostel suddenly fell ill on Sunday night. The senior students tried to call the university ambulance, but the ambulance did not come. After this, they called the warden but did not get any satisfactory answer. In such a situation, the sick student was taken to the hospital by auto and treated.

Angered by this, the students made a video and uploaded it on social media at night. No one came till morning. When worms were found in the mess food at night, the students got very angry. They gathered and started going towards the Vice Chancellor’s voice. The main gate near the hostel was closed. Then the students sat on a dharna near the gate and started raising slogans.

Students told these 5 main problems

  • The latch of the bathroom in the girls’ hostel is not closed. The students face problems due to the gate not being closed.
  • Poor quality food is prepared in the mess. Sometimes insects, sometimes nails or betel nuts are found. Hygiene is also not taken care of at all.
  • The warden of the girls’ hostel is not behaving properly. If anyone tells her any problem, she does not listen and keeps scolding. She should be removed immediately.
  • If a student falls ill at night, the warden does not pick up the phone. An ambulance is not available, even the government ambulance is not allowed to be called. This is a big problem.
  • There are only two water coolers on the four floors of the girls’ hostel. There is no adequate water supply. When we go to another hostel to get water, the warden gets angry.

On receiving information about the protest of the students, Controller of Examinations Raj Bahadur, Chief Proctor Prof. RK Saini, HODs of all the departments and wardens reached the spot. Everyone asked about the problems of the students and assured to solve them. But the students said that they have been facing problems for a long time. They went on hunger strike for 3 days earlier also, but nothing happened. That is why they had to come out on the road today.

The students insisted on calling the Vice Chancellor on the spot and removing the warden. During this, when a professor talked about giving back, the students got angry. Other HODs handled the situation. The protest continued till 1 am late night.

The Vice Chancellor will hold a meeting tomorrow and find a solution

Chief Proctor Prof. RK Saini says that he received a call from the guard at night that the hostel girls were going towards the Vice Chancellor’s residence while creating a ruckus. Then he came to the spot and talked to the girls. Some of the issues are the girls’ ambulance not coming on time, electricity system, poor quality food, bathroom problem etc.

Apart from this, if the warden takes any concrete steps, they are opposing it and demanding the removal of the warden. The Vice Chancellor is out right now, he has called the students at 12 noon on Tuesday. But the students are not agreeing. The process of convincing them is still going on.
