Indian women’s team defeated New Zealand by 59 runs in the first match of the three-match ODI series. On Thursday, Smriti Mandhana captained the Indian team in the absence of Harmanpreet Kaur. They won the toss and decided to bat first at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The Indian team was all out for 227 runs in 44.3 overs. Chasing the target of 228 runs, the New Zealand team was reduced to 168 runs in 40.4 overs. India has taken a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series. For India, Deepti Sharma scored 41 runs and took 1 wicket. He was chosen player of the match.
This was the first match of any format between the two teams after the Women’s T20 World Cup. New Zealand won the title by defeating South Africa in the final played this month.
Tejal scored the highest score of 42 runs. For India, Tejal Hasbanis scored the highest score of 42 runs. He played this innings in 64 balls with the help of 3 fours. Apart from this, Deepti Sharma scored 41 runs in 51 balls, Yashika Bhatia scored 37 runs in 33 balls, Jemimah Rodrigues scored 35 runs in 36 balls. New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr took 4 important wickets.
Tejal Hasbanis scored the highest score of 42 runs.
Radha Yadav took 3 wickets New Zealand, while chasing the target, lost the first wicket in the second over itself. Suzie Bates became the victim of Saima Thakor after scoring 1 run in 4 balls. For New Zealand, Brook Halliday scored the highest score of 39 runs in 54 balls. At the same time, Maddy Green was out after scoring 32 runs in 32 balls.
For India, Radha Yadav took 3 wickets and Saima Thakor took 2 wickets. Apart from this, Deepti Sharma and Arundhati Reddy took 1-1 wicket. Three batsmen were run out.
