The Health Department on Thursday interacted with private hospitals in strengthening family planning programs in the private sector. This meeting was organized in collaboration with the voluntary organization The Challenge Initiative – PSI India.

Dr. Sanju Aggarwal, Additional Director (AD Health) of Medical Health and Welfare, Kanpur Division, who was presiding over the meeting, said that private sector hospitals can play an important role in connecting middle class families with family planning programs.
Eligible couples from such families should be given information about all the resources of ‘Basket of Choice’ and they should be provided services. Also, the reports of those who are taking services from the private sector should also be shared with the health department.
A register should be maintained in every health department.
Consolidate services and reporting for each service
District Nodal and ACMO of the Family Planning Program, Dr. Ramit Rastogi appealed to the private hospitals to strengthen the family planning services and must do reporting of each service.
He said that along with providing service, private hospitals should also report on it every month, so that the actual status of family planning services in the district can be assessed and the index of the district can also be improved.
The district level team of the health department was also present.
Shubhra Dwivedi, representative of PSI India organization, also sensitized about timely reporting and family planning register on HMIS portal. On this occasion, the district level team of the health department including gynecologists and obstetricians from more than 50 private hospitals were present.

Dr. Subodh Prakash, nodal and ACMO of private hospitals, said that private sector service providers should maintain their records in the family planning register and also send the same to the health department through the portal.
The nodal officer said that according to the data of National Family Health Survey (NHFS)-5, the unmet need of Kanpur Nagar district is 6.8 percent. This means that out of every 100, there are 6 to 7 women or men who want to adopt the means of family planning but do not have the information or access to these means.
